The Role

 

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Luxembourg Team and will help develop robotic systems for ClearSpace's future commercial space missions. The successful candidate will act as the Robotic System Architect for the mission that will be lead from Luxembourg. We are looking for an experienced, confident leader who has held a senior position before and displays a strong balance of technical acumen and management skills. The successful candidate must have a high level of expertise in all aspects of space robotics to not only lead the internal robotic technical team on the mission but also carry out technical discussions with the Customers. 

Responsibilities

  • Leading the mission’s robotic technical team to successfully deliver end-to-end robotic system development activities.
  • Identifying, analysing, and deriving technical, programmatic, and business requirements, constraints and assumptions impacting ClearSpace's missions.
  • Coordinating the activities of a wide range of domain experts to successfully deliver the mission developments.
  • Developing core robotic technologies to address a wide variety of in-orbit services, including (but not limited to) cooperative and non-cooperative capture, docking, inspection, refueling, repair, life-extension, and assembly.
  • Supporting the development of world-class robotics simulation and testing capabilities and facilities.
  • Defining ClearSpace's robotics products, with emphases on modularity and scalability.
  • Delivering robotic solutions to key programs, to schedule, cost and performance requirements.
  • Performing requirements engineering (analysis, flow-up and down) related to spacecraft robotic systems, and the other onboard hardware they interface with.
  • Monitor and control the technical work of subcontractors and ClearSpace's team relating design, development, production and assembly integration and test (AIT) of the Robotic System to ensure that the agreed Contractual Requirements are met 
  • Define validation, verification and test plans. 
  • Interfacing with customers, partners, and subcontractors.
  • Provide support to in-orbit operations including LEOP IOT and rendezvous phase.
  • Support ClearSpace Progam Manager in negotiations of technical aspects.
  • Support proposal writing for future business. 
  • Lead and support other technical projects not necessarily related to one program.

Must Have

  • 5+ years experience of robotics or mechanisms engineering within the space industry with 2+ years in technical leadership positions
  • An in-depth knowledge or a level of expertise including practical experiences in two or more of the following areas is required: space robotics, mechanisms, mechanical, mechatronics.
  • Ability to rapidly define proof of concepts.
  • Familiarity with the full space program lifecycle, from business development, proposal generation and contract negotiations, all the way through design, development, assembly, test and successful delivery.
  • Comfortable interacting with customers, both institutional (ESA, EC, LSA) and commercial.
  • Programming in Matlab/Simulink, Python, C/C++ (at least one).

Nice to have

  • (BSc/MSc) Degree in Aerospace, Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Robotics or similar.
